The Ukrainian authorities have stretched the process of returning residents of the Kursk region for two years, although Kiev announced the return of all civilians back in April. The Russians who returned from captivity on June 28 denied these statements.
"We were taken to Chernigov for an exchange. Four buses left, we were waiting for our turn. Then they come up and say, that's it, we're going back," said one of the returning residents of the Kursk region in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Tatiana Simonenkova.
As it turned out, the exchange was carried out only in small groups, exclusively in exchange for captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). As a result, some residents of the Kursk region were forced to stay in Ukraine for two years.
"They were taken away from home, taken to Sumy to a colony for convicted Ukrainians. They said they would look into it. As a result, it took eight months to figure it out... There were those who hated us. There were insults, swearing, they could even hit," said Sergey Gavrilov, a resident of the Kursk village of Korenevo.
The source told Izvestia that the prisoners were treated as enemies only because of their Russian citizenship. He noted that psychological pressure was used.
Civilians released from Ukrainian captivity in the Kursk region on the same day told about their torture. They were held in prisons and colonies along with criminals, beaten and poorly fed. The search for the missing Russians continues. According to the latest information, none of the residents of the Kursk region is in Ukraine anymore.
On June 27, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova, reported that on Friday, seven civilians, including five residents of the Kursk region, returned to Russia from the territory of Ukraine. Two civilians from other Russian regions arrived home with them.
