In Finland, von der Leyen was criticized because of the statement on Ukraine
On June 27, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, criticized Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission (EC), after her statement about Ukraine's support and the EU's position in the conflict with Russia.
"Openly admits that the European Union (EU) is waging a war against Russia, fully financing this proxy conflict <...> such a degree of arrogance is pure evil," Meme wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The reason was the words spoken at the international conference on Ukraine in Gdansk. According to the politician, the rhetoric of the EC head actually indicates the EU's involvement in the conflict.
He also stated that the European Union's funds, in his opinion, are spent on military operations instead of supporting the economies of the union countries. The politician added that Europe had "officially become a union of war" and called for a change in the current course of the EU.
On June 26, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Main Military—Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Viktor Goremykin, said that European members of NATO were prolonging the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that European leaders are doing their best to convince the American administration to abandon the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis through diplomacy. According to him, the West is no longer hiding preparations for a new major war in Europe.
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on the same day that Western countries were not interested in ending the conflict in Ukraine. This is confirmed by the statements of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, about the support of Kiev.
