A resident of the Sakhalin region is awaiting trial for a drunken fatal accident

In the Sakhalin region, the investigation of a criminal case against a 26-year-old resident of Uglegorsk, who got drunk and killed a pedestrian, has been completed. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The accident occurred in January 2026 on the road in the village of Lesogorskoye. It was established that a 26-year-old man who did not have a driver's license got behind the wheel of a car drunk and hit a pedestrian moving in the same direction.

After that, the Uglegorets fled the scene, leaving the man on the road. He did not call an ambulance, and did not report the incident to the police.

The pedestrian was seriously injured. He died from a traumatic shock, SakhalinMedia news agency clarifies.

The driver of the car is charged under clauses "a, b, c" of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person, committed by a person in a state of intoxication who does not have a driver's license, associated with leaving the place of its commission"), as well as under Article 125 of the Criminal Code ("Being left in danger"). He faces up to 13 years in prison.

Earlier in June, a court in St. Petersburg sentenced Roman Bukatkin, a local resident, who got behind the wheel of a carsharing car while intoxicated, drove to a bus stop and hit two women. A 39-year-old woman died on the spot, the second female pedestrian was hospitalized in serious condition. The driver himself tried to escape, but was found near the scene of the accident with a broken leg and other injuries.
