Chernyshova stressed that the disease is not transmitted from person to person or through contact with a sick animal — it can only be infected through soil.

The specialist added that it can be difficult to diagnose an infection, as its symptoms may resemble other diseases. She recommended that you be sure to inform your doctor about recent trips abroad, as this may help to make a diagnosis faster.

According to Chernyshova, the treatment is carried out with antibiotics: first, injections are given for two to three weeks, after which the patient is prescribed pills for a period of three to six months.
