The first robots went out to fight hogweed in the Leningrad region

Robots have now joined the fight against hogweed in the Leningrad Region. Machines operated by operators are cutting weeds at the root, the head of the region, Alexander Drozdenko, said on social media on Friday, June 26.

The first samples are working in the Tosnensky district, along the banks of rivers and in those settlements where chemical treatment is prohibited. Further, the experience of eliminating a dangerous plant is planned to be distributed throughout the region.

"We were the first in Russia to start fighting hogweed, to have it recognized as a weed, to be the first to impose fines, and now we use drones to protect people from burns," the governor said.

Messages about the places where hogweed grows should be sent to the settlement administration or through Public Services, writes 78.ru . Next, the owner of the territory must fight, and in case of non-compliance with the requirements, the land may be seized.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that Russia has adjusted the rules for recognizing unused land plots: the presence of Sosnovsky hogweed will no longer be considered an independent basis for the seizure of land. At the same time, the obligation to deal with a dangerous plant remains, and fines for unkempt areas are still in effect.
