The expert listed the main actions in case of suspected stroke
Speech disorders in stroke can often resemble alcohol intoxication, so it is extremely important to stop and offer help to a person who feels unwell, even if he seems drunk. Ekaterina Milova, Director of Development at the ORBI Stroke Foundation, told about this in the podcast "Let's figure it out."
"Next, we ask the person to smile — the corner of his mouth will be lowered, raise both hands — one hand will either not be able to rise, or it will fall quickly, and tell his name. The speech will be unintelligible," the expert listed the main signs.
If at least one of these factors is present, not necessarily all three, it is necessary to immediately call an ambulance from any phone using a single number 103, Milova emphasizes.
"It's better to call 103, because it's the fastest way to call an ambulance," said the podcast guest.
Then you need to list all the symptoms that you see so that the doctors can send the right team and understand what needs to be done. If you are at home alone and feel any of the symptoms of a stroke, be sure to open the door for an ambulance right away, as the condition can progress quickly and the person will not be able to open the door at the right moment.
It is also important not to delay calling specialists — for example, if a person feels unwell at home and first decides to take a pill and lie down, this can negatively affect the chances of rehabilitation, the expert explained.
"Time is the most important enemy of stroke, the more seconds and minutes have passed, that is, we are not even talking about hours, the less likely it is that some functions will be restored," Milova summed up.
On June 18, Professor Pavel Vorobyov, Chairman of the Moscow City Scientific Society of Therapists, spoke about how to protect yourself from blood clots during a long flight. In particular, he advised drinking more water, getting up more often and moving around the cabin.
