Russians were warned about the danger of air conditioner pollution
An air conditioner that has not been cleaned for a long time is a health hazard. Roskachestvo warned about this on Friday, June 26.
Experts explained that dust settles on the filters and system parts inside the device, and due to the constant humidity, bacteria and mold begin to actively multiply there.
"After an hour of operation of such an air conditioner, the concentration of mold fungi increases in the indoor air, which can cause allergies and breathing problems. In the most advanced cases, a bacterium that causes pneumonia can get into the system," Roskachestvo warned in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The agency recommended cleaning the filters every two to three weeks, especially when the air conditioner is running every day. At the same time, every six months or a year it is better to call specialists for deep cleaning of the indoor unit of the device.
"The reason for unscheduled treatment is foreign odors — sour or musty — when turned on, as well as if the device has become worse at cooling. In such cases, it is better not to use the air conditioner until it is cleaned professionally," the experts concluded.
On June 25, Yana Novikova, an otorhinolaryngologist and sign language therapist, told how to choose the temperature of an air conditioner in hot weather so as not to get sick. The specialist noted that the air conditioner itself does not cause viral infections, but too cold and dry air can irritate the mucous membranes of the nose and throat, weakening their natural defenses.
In turn, allergist-immunologist Alexey Bessmertny told IA Regnum that allergy symptoms during the flowering season can be reduced if you use air conditioning.
