With the onset of heat and an increase in the number of trips outside the city, gadgets are increasingly exposed to high temperatures, which can reach 50-70 degrees in the car interior and lead to overheating of batteries and damage to electronic components. Alexander Dzhakonia, head of the center for research and testing of MegaFon subscriber equipment, told Izvestia on July 1.

According to the expert, almost all electronic devices are susceptible to overheating — from smartphones and laptops to navigators, smart watches, wireless headphones and car electronic keys.

The expert noted that, first of all, batteries suffer from high temperatures, in which, when heated above 50 degrees, electrolyte degradation and an increase in internal pressure begin.

"At temperatures above 50 degrees, the pressure inside the battery increases, and electrolyte degradation begins. At a minimum, this can lead to a decrease in battery capacity. In more severe cases, battery swelling and even spontaneous combustion are possible. It is strictly forbidden to use a device with a swollen battery," explained Jakonia.

He added that overheating also affects the operation of processors, which reduce performance to reduce temperature, which causes the device to run slower. In addition, the adhesive holding the structural elements may weaken under the influence of heat, as well as the screens and camera arrays may be damaged.

The expert stressed that to protect gadgets, it is important not to leave them in the sun and in a heated car interior, and if necessary, put them away in cooler areas — the glove compartment or trunk, where the temperature is lower.

"The simplest but most effective advice is not to leave the device in the sun or in the interior of a car parked in an open parking lot. However, if this cannot be avoided, it is better to at least put the gadget in the glove compartment or trunk — the temperature there is usually lower than in the cabin," the specialist noted.

In case of overheating of the gadget, the expert recommends stopping heating, moving the device to the shade and allowing it to cool down gradually, avoiding sudden cooling, which can lead to condensation and damage to internal components. After the device cools down, check its operation, and if any malfunctions or signs of damage occur, contact the service center for diagnosis.

Environmentalist, physics engineer, author of the textbook "Housing and Communal Services Management" Ilya Rybalchenko commented on June 16 to Izvestia on whether smartphone radiation could in any way change the trajectory of lightning. According to him, the key factor in the formation of a discharge is not the presence of electronic devices, but the conductivity of air and the path of least electrical resistance.
