The RFU confirmed negotiations on the match between the national teams of Russia and the USA

The Russian Football Union (RFU) is discussing with its American colleagues the holding of a friendly match between the Russian and US national football teams. Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the RFU, told about this on June 26.

"We are in contact with representatives of the U.S. national team and understand the limitations that exist on their part. They're working on their options, and we're working on ours. Therefore, this idea has not been put in the back drawer," he said in an interview with RBC Sport.

Mitrofanov added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also participated in these negotiations at a certain stage. He recalled that the Foreign Minister first publicly confirmed these discussions in September 2025.

The day before, RFU President Alexander Dyukov said that the Russian Football Union regards the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to admit the Russian national under-15 team as an important step towards returning to tournaments. Dyukov added that the Russian side intends to confirm participation in the FIFA U-15 World Cup and festival in the near future.

On June 15, RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov announced that FIFA would invite the Russian national team to a new under-15 youth tournament to be held in the United States. The tournament is expected to take place in September this year.
