The Ministry of Health has updated the list of rare diseases
The Russian Ministry of Health has updated the list of rare (orphan) diseases, including new nosological forms and clarifying certain positions of the current classification, according to a document published on June 23 on the agency's website.
According to the current version, the list now includes 303 diseases.
In particular, the list includes primary erythromelalgia, a rare genetically determined disease associated with mutations in the SCN9A gene. Other rare pathologies are also included in the list, and separate groups of hereditary and congenital diseases belonging to various classes of diseases have been clarified.
Updating the list is aimed at improving the accuracy of the diagnosis of orphan diseases and simplifying organizational and registration procedures for providing medicines to patients.
The Ministry of Health has prepared changes to the standard of treatment for schizophrenia, providing for additional examinations of patients, which became known on June 17. The document allows for an expansion of the list of tests during hospitalization, including studies for hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HIV. Additional tests for narcotic substances may also be performed in some cases. The current standard of treatment for schizophrenia has been in effect since 2022.
