The planned increase in the average contribution of NATO countries by more than two times indicates that the European Union (EU) is preparing for a major rearmament. This opinion was expressed by political scientist and publicist Georgy Dibrov on Thursday, June 25.

According to the expert, this will lead to cuts in social programs, a decline in the economy and mass discontent among the population.

"By its actions, NATO is provoking the start of a new arms race, which often ends in a major war. Only the peace parties of the EU countries, aimed at the nationally oriented development of states, can slow down this process and push this course away," the political scientist said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Dibrov noted that the next interim agreements on increasing spending on collective defense were agreed in 2025 in The Hague. The increase in expenditures from 2% to 5% of GDP is planned to be implemented by 2035. At the same time, more than half of the 5% should be used for basic defense tasks, and the rest for infrastructure development.

The expert believes that the image of Russia is being used as a screen for updating NATO's military potential, but in reality new types of weapons will be used to fight for the redistribution of spheres of influence in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The political scientist also drew attention to the statement by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that the EU's military and industrial integration with Ukraine has already been launched: Germany will produce drones, Denmark — rocket fuel, and other countries will join.
