Pickups of the domestic brand Sollers received Russian galvanized metal
The Russian automaker Sollers has switched to using galvanized body parts in the production of a line of Sollers brand pickups. Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) is the supplier of rolled metal for the new pressing plant in Ulyanovsk, the company's press service reported on June 25.
These parts are already used for Sollers ST6, ST8 and ST9 pickups. The bodies of the Sollers S9 SUV, which will enter mass production in September, are also made of domestic galvanized metal. The range includes both external body elements (wings, sidewall frames, roof panels, hood, doors, floor), as well as internal panels in the passenger compartment and hidden components in the front.
Alloy steel of domestic production with enhanced anticorrosive properties is used for body parts. The protective layer is applied to a steel sheet by continuously immersing the latter in a hot zinc melt, which should significantly increase the service life of the body elements compared to other galvanizing methods, the company noted.
The automated line with a capacity of 800,000 stamping operations per year is a single automated complex with four presses with a capacity of 1,000, 1,200 and 2,000 tons-forces, a billet preparation machine and industrial robots for loading, unloading and transferring blanks. The line is controlled by a single operator.
Earlier, on June 8, it became known that Sollers launched mass production of passive safety system components: steering wheels, airbags and system control units.
