The Russian Atom electric car has passed crash certification tests at the NAMI State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation. Production cars were tested in several scenarios, including a side impact, which is the most difficult for a design without a central pillar. This is stated in a message from the Kama developer company, which was received by Izvestia on June 25.

Such crash tests are a mandatory procedure confirming the car's compliance with the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles" (TR CU 018/2011). One copy of the Atom was subjected to a frontal impact at a speed of 56 km / h on a deformable barrier with a 40% overlap. The second was a side impact with a 950—kilogram trolley with a barrier at a speed of 50 km/h, with the height of the impact falling on the lower part of the doors and the threshold area.

"According to the results of both tests, all systems worked normally. The airbags and seat belts were activated at the estimated time, and the blinds completely covered the glazing. The high-voltage system remained intact, and the battery was not damaged. After the frontal impact, the doors on both sides opened without difficulty, including the rear ones, which automatically opened after pressing the button — the geometry of the body remained within the tolerance limits, the locks did not lock," the company said.

They noted that the design of the Atom's body without a central pillar using a combination of four types of steel and aluminum ensures the level of protection required by modern standards and the preservation of system operability after damage. The electric car also passed resource, climatic and corrosion tests. Kama stated that the model is ready for mass production and the start of sales, but did not specify the start date.

As reported on April 23, Kama announced the launch of open pre-sales of the Russian Atom electric car. The ability to book a car guarantees its receipt in 2026, the company said at the time.
