Indonesia has suggested cooperation with the Russian Federation in the processing of nickel and cobalt

Russia and Indonesia can cooperate in the field of processing critically important minerals. This was announced on June 25 by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

"An area where Russia can make a key contribution to Indonesia's efforts is the processing of critically important minerals. Indonesia has many raw materials such as nickel, cobalt, bauxite and tin. We want these raw materials to be processed in Indonesia so that the added value remains in the country," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti and RT.

According to the Minister, Jakarta, as part of the "Golden Indonesia 2045" strategy, aims to transform the country into one of the largest economies in the world by the centenary of its independence. The development of the processing industry is one of the main priorities of this plan. Indonesia intends to move away from the raw material model of the economy, increasing the depth of processing of its own resources.

"Russia has high world-class competencies in technology and metal processing. The combination of these factors can give a very strong result, especially considering that Russia is strong in the downstream direction," Kartasasmita emphasized.

According to him, cooperation in the field of processing critically important minerals can become a promising axis of industrial cooperation.
