About 90 sheep died in a pasture in the Slovenian Alps due to a lightning strike.

About 90 sheep died in an Alpine pasture near the peak of Krasji Vrh in northwestern Slovenia as a result of a lightning strike. This was announced on June 24 by the Department for Food Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Plant Protection of the republic.

"On June 24, the department received a message about the death of about 90 sheep grazing in the Krasyi-Vrh area. <...> Most of the dead animals are located on a steep and inaccessible scree slope," the agency's website says.

The ministry noted that the carcasses of the dead animals showed signs characteristic of death from a lightning strike, including burns.

NBC News reported on April 24 that more than 30 sloths brought from Guyana and Peru died in the United States due to inadequate conditions of detention. The warehouse where the sloths were housed was not prepared for the cold weather. There was no water supply or electricity in the building. Hypothermia was the cause of death of 21 sloths from Guyana. Eight more animals died of exhaustion. Two individuals from Peru did not survive transportation.
