An auto expert spoke about the impact of driving style on fuel consumption
Vice-president of the National Union of Motorists Jan Heitser told on Wednesday, June 24, whether driving style will help save fuel and how it will affect accidents on the roads.
According to the expert, the driving style affects fuel consumption, but the aggressive driving style primarily affects it. He noted that efficiency needs to be learned from truckers — they drive evenly, drive at a cruising speed and try to slow down minimally.
"The city does not imply an economical ride. In any case, you will spend more fuel than on the highway. If you are driving at the fourth speed, then it should not be the third speed, which almost switches to the fourth, but the fourth. You can even look more at the tachometer so as not to rev up," he said in an interview with NSN.
Haitser added that all these tips will help save a liter at most, but all efforts can go down the drain at the first sharp maneuver.
"You can turn off the air conditioner, but by and large it will save a maximum of a liter. Outside the city, we can choose a uniform speed of 70 km/h, do not slow down, drive smoothly. It will all work. However, then you suddenly have to maneuver away from an emergency situation, and all the savings will become useless," he concluded.
Earlier, on June 23, 2026, the Moscow Department of Transport announced that fuel tanker drivers temporarily do not need to issue passes to enter and move around the capital, IA Regnum reports. The measure was introduced at the request of the owners of the metropolitan and Moscow region gas station networks to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply.
For the duration of this relief, tanker trucks were given the right to enter the city around the clock and move around its territory without special permits, as provided for in the usual procedure. In addition, fines for not having a cargo pass will not be issued to drivers of such vehicles, the Moscow City News agency reports.
