Folk signs for June 26
In Russia, on June 26, the day of Akulina Buckwheat was celebrated. This holiday was closely connected with the beginning of the sowing of buckwheat, one of the most important crops in the peasant economy. It was believed that it was on this day that you need to start sowing in order to get a rich harvest. People used to say, "Sow buckwheat when the rye is good."
On this day, the men checked their inventory and went out into the field, trying to complete the main work before the rains, which were frequent at this time. The women did household chores and, according to custom, prepared porridge from last year's grain.
