On June 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected samples of new Russian aviation equipment on the territory of JSC "LII named after Gromov". After that, he took part in a meeting, the main topic of which was the development of the industry. The main statements of the president are in the material of Izvestia.

On the development of the aviation industry

During the meeting, Putin drew attention to the particular importance of the aviation industry for Russia.

"I would like to emphasize once again that the aviation industry, which we all understand well, is of particular importance to Russia. Transport links, connectivity of the regions of our vast country, speed and convenience of movement of citizens directly depend on its condition," the president said.

He also noted that Russia was forced and was able to fully import all aviation equipment. He also added that Russia is one of the four countries capable of providing the entire production cycle for the production of aircraft engines. At the same time, the Russian president drew attention to the fact that Western air carriers and aircraft manufacturers themselves had suffered significant damage from the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions.

The Head of state drew special attention to the new Russian MC-21, SJ-100 and IL-114 aircraft, which, as the President said, have a very good level.

"Moreover, we have now looked at the equipment that we showed, and in a number of areas we have certainly not only achieved that the equipment is not inferior to the best world models, but also exceeds foreign and Western standards in a number of components," Putin said.

He also noted that Russian equipment is being created by very young teams of engineers and designers.

"The average age of these groups is 32-35 years. This, of course, is very pleasant and has good prospects in terms of further construction and strengthening of our engineering and design schools," he said.

About air transportation

During the meeting, Putin expressed confidence that the joint efforts of the state, aircraft manufacturers and companies would do everything necessary to ensure that Russian air carriers operated flights mainly on domestic aircraft.

However, he also pointed out the existing risk that the government's targets for passenger air transportation may not be achieved, so we need to think about further steps to develop civil aviation. He added that the demand for flights and air transportation is growing on both domestic and foreign routes. Therefore, the task of the state, airlines and the aviation industry is to create conditions for increasing the volume of passenger air transportation, improving the safety and comfort of flights.

The context

Earlier, Putin got acquainted with samples of new Russian aviation equipment and inspected the IL-114-300, SJ-100 and MC-21-310 aircraft.

The IL-114-300 is an upgraded version of a turboprop aircraft with a passenger capacity of 50-68 people. It is designed to replace the outdated An-24 and AN-26. Delivery of the first three aircraft is expected in 2026, and the same number in 2027.

The SJ-100 is a short—range narrow-body aircraft. After 2022, its mass production was suspended due to sanctions and the withdrawal of foreign partners from the project. The resumption of supplies is expected in 2027.

MS-21-310 — medium-haul aircraft. In a two-class layout, it is designed for 175 passengers. Serial production of the airliner is scheduled for 2027 after the completion of the import substitution phase of systems and components.
