The meaning of the biblical story about the birth of John the Baptist is that God acts even in situations that seem hopeless to a person, and great ministers of the Church appear not by human calculation, but by God's plan. John Stepanchuk, a cleric of the Church of St. George the Victorious in the city of Vidnoye, told Izvestia about this.

The biblical legend describes the miraculous birth of John the Baptist in the family of the priest Zachariah and the righteous Elizabeth, who, having reached an advanced age, remained childless. According to the priest, at that moment he announced the appearance of the archangel Gabriel, who announced the future birth of his son, ordered him to be named John and predicted his special mission — to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to convert many to God and prepare the way for the Savior.

The priest noted that the main spiritual meaning of this story is to affirm the power of faith and prayer, as well as faithfulness to God's word, which is fulfilled even when human circumstances seem insurmountable.

"Another important meaning is the preparation for the coming of Christ: John is not born for his own glory, but as a Forerunner, that is, the one who points to the Savior in advance and calls people to repentance. Therefore, this story teaches humility, trust in God and willingness to become an instrument of His will," said Priest John Stepanchuk.
