The Interior Ministry called deepfake avatars the most dangerous technology of scammers in Russia.

A deepfake avatar, capable of communicating in real time with the voice and image of familiar people, is one of the most dangerous fraud tools in Russia. This was announced on June 24 at the session of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum by Danil Filippov, Deputy Head of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"The most dangerous deepfake is a deepfake avatar that can act in real time. No preparations are needed, and so on, when a person calls and a voice is already being broadcast in real time under an acquaintance," TASS quoted him as saying.

Filippov said that since the beginning of this year, about 4 thousand people have become victims of fraud using deepfakes. He noted that this technology has not yet been widely used in the criminal environment, but it can be actively used in the future as it develops.

On the same day, Filippov said that there are more than 150 thousand services on the Internet that generate deepfakes. Roskachestvo also reported on April 24 that deepfakes can be found on social networks, blogs and marketplaces, while artificial intelligence-generated characters are almost impossible to distinguish from real people.
