Medvedev blamed the West for the crisis of international law

On June 24, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, linked the current crisis of international law institutions with attempts by Western countries to turn it into a tool for a narrow circle of people.

"The current crisis of the institutions of international law is largely due to the desire to turn it into such a privilege of the "first" for a narrow circle of the elect in the spirit of the rules—based world order," Medvedev said during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPIEF-2026).

According to him, Western states have been actively promoting this concept for decades, but it was in 2026 that they recognized its collapse. The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council stressed that the systemic integrity of international law was being deliberately destroyed by the West. According to Medvedev, this process has become the most active phase since the collapse of the USSR.

Russia once again pointed to the crisis of the organization and the role of the West in fomenting it.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on June 10 that Europe's security system had been completely destroyed by the hands of Western politicians. Based on this, Lavrov called for preventing the entire continent, which used to be called the "Common Eurasian Home," from becoming an arena of geopolitical confrontation.
