Maxim Sutormin, Chief neurologist of the Central Federal District, said that the process of memory loss is reversible if the disorders are metabolic in nature.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, June 24, he said that in neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease, the main task of doctors is not to fully restore cognitive functions, but to slow down the progression of the disease. According to him, disorders are easier to correct in the early stages, but most patients seek help with moderate or severe symptoms.

The expert noted that in neurodegeneration of the brain, neurologists often work together with psychiatrists, since they can prescribe drugs that can help the patient. He warned that the longer the visit to the doctor is postponed, the faster the disease develops and the more difficult it is to slow down this process.

In addition, Sutormin stressed that not only medications, but also cognitive training help to improve memory. As an example, he cited a study in which patients learned Pushkin's poems once a week, which, combined with drug therapy, improved cognitive functions. According to the neurologist, crosswords, crosswords, learning foreign languages and reading popular science literature can also be useful.

Earlier, on June 23, neurologist Maxim Sutormin said that household forgetfulness can be a normal reaction to lack of sleep, violation of the regime, high workload or a large amount of information. You should be wary if memory problems recur regularly, worsen for no obvious reason, and become noticeable to others, RT notes.

In May, Olga Butenko, a neurologist, warned that frequent consumption of chips and sugary sodas can impair memory, attention and cognitive functions in adults and adolescents. The danger, according to the expert's explanation, lies not in a single ingredient, but in their combination, writes NSN.

Also in May, psychologist Ksenia Gerasimova explains that traumatic childhood events, such as parental alcoholism or violence, can lead to decreased memory and attention in adulthood. 360.ru .

In March, Kirill Almazov, a neurologist, said that eating beef liver and buckwheat helps strengthen memory. To improve memory and mental activity, it is also useful to add fatty acids to the diet, which are involved in the transmission of nerve impulses, the website notes. kp.ru .
