Over the years of its existence, the Charter of the United Nations (UN) has failed to erase from the thinking of European elites the idea of their alleged racial superiority over other people. This was stated on June 24 by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, taking part in the plenary session "International law — the privilege of the first or the right of equals?" within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPIEF-2026).
"Over the decades, the beautiful text has not been able to erase the ideas of racial and national superiority from the thinking of Western elites. After all, Nazism, which was unfinished at the time, found fertile ground," he said.
The preserved destructive and untrue self-perception of the West, as Medvedev explained, is now continuing to develop among the "ideological and direct biological descendants" of the Nazis, some of whom, according to him, are now "at the helm of European politics."
Therefore, as Medvedev urged, reading the "great lines" of the UN Charter, no one should have any illusions.
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the situation of the West with a poem by the Soviet poet Samuel Marshak, "All of Europe." According to her, this lyrical work remains relevant today, as attempts are being made in this part of the world to come together against Russia again, just as they were during the Great Patriotic War. A month earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had already pointed out the inability of Western countries to accept the existence of Russia as an independent entity. The same thing, as he recalled, was observed 100, and even 200 years ago.
