Alternative energy sources will not be able to ensure the rapid growth of technology, even in 25 and 50 years — traditional hydrocarbons will retain their key importance. This was announced on June 24 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking at the XII Primakov Readings International Expert Forum.

"Indeed, technologies will develop, indeed, they will influence the whole way of life in one way or another, but it seems to me that in any case alternative energy sources will not be able to ensure such a rapid growth of technology," he said.

Peskov added that, in particular, artificial intelligence technologies, data processing and storage, require huge energy generation, which cannot be provided using alternative energy sources.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for Investment and Economic cooperation, said on June 5 that Russia has the potential to become a world leader in providing the cheapest source of energy for artificial intelligence (AI). Dmitriev stressed that the availability of inexpensive energy resources creates significant geopolitical preferences for the country.
