The Chinese Ambassador spoke about the prevalence of learning Russian in China

Learning Russian is a compulsory subject in more than 300 schools in China. This was announced on June 24 by Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui.

"Russian language teaching is actively developing in China. Russian Russian is offered by 185 Chinese universities, more than 400 universities include it in the curriculum as a general education course, and more than 300 secondary schools have Russian as a compulsory subject," he told RIA Novosti.

According to the diplomat, mutual interest in language exchange programs between the two countries is showing steady growth, and against the background of strengthening bilateral relations, the need for qualified language specialists is becoming even more pronounced. He noted that in Russia, Chinese is already integrated into the Unified State Exam system, while in China, Russian is part of the national entrance examination in foreign languages for university applicants.

On June 16, Russian Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov said that more than 47,000 students study Chinese in Russian schools. Tatiana Lobanova, Doctor of Philology, Director of the Regional Center for Chinese Language and Chinese Studies at the State University of Education, said on May 4 that Chinese could become one of the global languages of communication in the next 20-30 years. She stressed that the importance of the Chinese language in Russia will grow against the background of expanding cooperation with China.
