The key way to protect against intruders who, under the guise of representatives of management companies, banks or government agencies, are trying to gain access to personal accounts remains a strict ban on transmitting confirmation codes from SMS and push notifications. Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and federal coordinator of the Digital Russia project of the United Russia party, recalled this on June 24.

"The main rule of protection remains unchanged: never tell anyone the confirmation codes from SMS or push notifications. Neither employees of management companies, nor representatives of banks, nor government agencies have the right to request such information," he told RIA Novosti.

The parliamentarian added that the requirement of the interlocutor to voice the sent code is a direct reason for the instant termination of the telephone conversation.

According to the deputy, telephone scammers are constantly upgrading social engineering techniques and are now actively introducing legends based on familiar communal problems.

"Under the pretext of replacing the intercom, issuing new keys, or updating the access system, attackers are trying to convince a person to provide a text message code," he warned.

The Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia a day earlier warned about the sending of fake court summonses by fraudsters, allegedly from departments of the department. The Interior Ministry urged citizens not to fall for the tricks of scammers and not to click on suspicious links. Official notifications from judicial and law enforcement agencies are sent through government services or delivered in person.
