- Mendel stated about the connection between poverty and interest in politics in Ukraine
The economic situation and standard of living of the population directly affect public interest in politics. This statement was made on June 23 by Yulia Mendel, the former press secretary of the President of Ukraine.
"In Ukraine, the real struggle is the eternal battle between the TV and the refrigerator. The emptier people's refrigerators become, the less interest they have in political spectacles. You can't offer TV shows instead of food, otherwise you'll get The Hunger Games," she wrote on the social network.
Also in the publication, Mendel criticized the economic situation in Ukraine, stating an increase in poverty and questioning the actions of the authorities and their political prospects.
Mendel said on June 22 that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, was satisfied with the continuation of the current conflict. According to her, the Ukrainian leader continues to toughen his rhetoric and confirms with his statements about possible negotiations that he considers the current state of affairs acceptable.
