- The Polish Prime Minister acknowledged the growth of anti-Ukrainian sentiments in the country
Anti-Ukrainian sentiments have been on the rise in Poland recently. This was announced on June 23 by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, opening a government meeting.
"I am well aware of the public mood. <...> The admission of much more than a million refugees from Ukraine will sooner or later provoke conflicts," a video recording of his speech was posted on the You-Tube channel of the office of the Polish Prime Minister.
According to the head of the Polish government, the attitude of a part of society towards Ukrainians has changed against the background of the long stay of a large number of refugees in the country. Tusk noted that he had repeatedly encountered similar sentiments while communicating with citizens.
The prime minister added that he understands the irritation of some Polish residents. In his opinion, individual incidents and behaviors contribute to the emergence of tension and reinforce negative attitudes towards Ukrainians.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle on June 19 due to the glorification of the UPA. Later, the Ukrainian president returned the order to Poland by mail. Former Ukrainian leader Leonid Kuchma also refused a state award on June 20.
On June 20, Navrotsky explained that Zelensky's deprivation of the order was due to the presence of a "pain threshold" among Poles. He stressed that this decision would not affect the support of the Ukrainian side in the conflict with Russia.
