The State Duma approved a simplified procedure for selling homes of corrupt officials

The State Duma adopted immediately in the second and third readings a law simplifying the rules for the sale of housing seized from officials in corruption cases. This became known during a meeting of the lower house of parliament on June 23.

The document removes restrictions, according to which previously it was possible to put up for auction only those apartments whose market price was at least twice the average cost of housing in the region. According to Sergei Gavrilov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Property, only 8% of such facilities were sold due to this requirement.

"This will allow us to receive additional budget revenues from the sale of more than three thousand apartments confiscated for corruption offenses," the deputy wrote in the Maks messenger.

The law also abolishes the mandatory six-month pause between failed auctions, allowing repeated auctions to be announced without waiting. In addition, the Russian government has received the authority to set additional requirements for companies evaluating state property.

A separate rule is being introduced for religious facilities: if they have been privatized illegally, the statute of limitations for challenging such transactions in court is lifted.

On May 7, the leader of the Fair Russia party, the head of the Duma faction, Sergei Mironov, proposed banning officials and their close relatives from owning foreign real estate. According to Mironov, a man who opposes his country's victory is a "quiet corrupt official" who has accumulated capital and prepared for himself a "spare airfield" abroad — a house or apartment.
