- The gynecologist told about the causes of summer exacerbations of gynecological diseases
Exacerbations of gynecological diseases are more often recorded in the summer due to long trips, swimming in open reservoirs and hypothermia after water. Natalia Loshchakova, a gynecologist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia about this on June 26.
"In summer, women are more likely to experience hypothermia of the pelvic organs, even if it is not always immediately felt. Bathing in cool water, staying in a wet swimsuit for a long time, and air—conditioned rooms can lead to a decrease in local immunity and trigger inflammatory processes," Loshchakova explained.
The doctor also noted that changing the conditions of intimate hygiene during trips and on vacation can disrupt the balance of vaginal flora and pH, which leads to bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis and other infectious and inflammatory diseases. Loshchakova advises paying special attention to chronic diseases that can worsen in the summer, including salpingoophoritis and cervicitis.
"During the vacation period, women often postpone a visit to the doctor, even if the first signs of the disease appear. Meanwhile, the symptoms are increasing, and, as a rule, people come to the clinic with severe inflammation. And in such a situation, long—term treatment is already required," Loshchakova added.
To reduce the risks, the doctor recommends that after swimming in the sea or pool, immediately change into dry clothes, limit bathing time and avoid cold water in case of discomfort. In addition, it is important to choose loose and breathable clothing, avoiding tight or synthetic fabrics that create a greenhouse effect.
On May 18, Sabina Khanmirzoeva, an obstetrician-gynecologist and surgeon at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), said that menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life, but its symptoms and consequences require attention and timely medical support. According to the specialist, from a medical point of view, menopause is confirmed by the absence of menstruation for 12 months in a row.
