Over the past day, 358 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, killing 29 and injuring 427 people. 24 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 23 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

As a result of 69 accidents, 25 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 44 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 66 others were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

There were 21 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 23 road users, including one child, required medical attention. 13 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. There were also 66 accidents involving minors, in which 72 young road users were injured, including 25 passengers and nine motor vehicle drivers. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to transport children in strict accordance with current safety regulations. The life and health of other road users, including the most vulnerable category, children, also depend on driving skills, driving experience, well—being and law-abiding driving behavior. Traffic regulations and driving discipline should be strictly observed, the distance between vehicles should be maintained, and the speed limit should not be exceeded. When it rains on wet roads, it is important to slow down to the lowest speed and turn on the headlights even during the daytime. The department urged motorists to be attentive, collected, careful and not distracted while driving, while monitoring the traffic situation.

In addition, drivers were advised to be more careful on the roads of towns and cities in the summer, when school-age children spend a lot of time outdoors. Special care should be taken when driving through courtyards, passing intersections and approaching pedestrian crossings. Compliance with driving discipline is especially necessary, there are child passengers in the car.

"During trips of any length with young passengers, avoid risky driving, dangerous maneuvers, and choose a reasonable speed limit depending on the time of day, roadway conditions, and weather conditions. Always remember that the preservation of the life and health of underage passengers depends entirely on adult road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Propaganda and Prevention of child traffic Injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier in the day, the State Traffic Inspectorate reported that information was being disseminated on social media and in the media that, starting on July 1, Russia was allegedly increasing responsibility for violations of road safety laws against drivers. In particular, we are talking about using a phone while driving and changing the procedure for checking the light transmission of windows. This information does not correspond to reality, the department said.
