The MEP called the lack of dialogue with Russia the main problem of the European Union.

The inability of the European Union to establish a dialogue with Moscow remains one of the main political problems of unification. This was announced on June 23 by Fernand Kartheiser, a member of the European Parliament from Luxembourg.

"For me, the problem is not so much dialogue at the parliamentary level, but rather unblocking the issue of Russia at the governmental level, at the level of the European Union. This is the problem, and we still haven't even started to solve it," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, to overcome this barrier, Brussels needs to show considerable political will, including at the level of national governments. However, Europe does not have such a will today, which means that the problem is not being solved.

On the same day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, avoided giving a direct answer to a question she received about the EU's potential readiness for negotiations with Moscow. She acknowledged that there were indeed such calls, and then abruptly changed the subject, calling it "necessary" to determine the requirements for the Russian side in a timely manner.

On June 19, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed to Europe's predisposition to negotiate with Russia "from a position of strength." He called this approach misleading and the "biggest mistake" of the country's potential interlocutors.
