Pistachios remain one of the most popular nuts among Russian consumers due to their taste and nutritional value. The peculiarity of nuts is that they are often sold in their shells, and some of them may be closed. Sergey Lednev, head of the quality department at Masterfood, told Izvestia on June 26 about how safe it is to consume such pistachios.

"A closed shell usually means that the nut is not fully ripe: during normal maturation, the core increases in size and naturally opens the shell. At the same time, such pistachios remain usable and do not cause harm to the consumer," the expert noted.

When choosing pistachios, Lednev recommended paying attention to the appearance. The core should have a characteristic greenish tint, and the shell should have a light, straw—colored, uniform color without traces of mold, darkening and damage. At the same time, the shade of the kernel itself is not the only indicator of the freshness of the product.

The expert noted that pistachios can be a convenient snack option. The recommended serving size for an adult is about 30-40 grams per day, which corresponds to about one small handful of nuts.

"Nuts are a delicate product that requires special storage conditions. To prevent pistachios from spoiling, it is important to maintain the temperature regime. It is not recommended to store them in the refrigerator, since the storage temperature is violated every time the product is removed and returned to the refrigerator shelf. It is also worth avoiding heat sources," Lednev explained.

According to him, the best option is a dark and dry place in the kitchen cupboard. At the same time, nuts should be stored in an airtight package, for example, in a glass jar with an airtight lid.

On May 29, Victoria Sadovskaya, an endocrinologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, named unhealthy but popular breakfast dishes among Russians. Among them are fatty and fried foods, sausage and sweet pastries. She added that it is also better not to eat foods high in simple carbohydrates for breakfast, such as sweets or sugary cereals. They cause a sharp spike in blood sugar levels and, if consumed regularly, increase the risk of developing metabolic disorders.
