The expert predicted a profound transformation of higher education in Russia
In the context of state support for the system of secondary vocational education (SPE) in the coming decades, there will be a transition to a trend towards a "new elitism" of education in higher education institutions. Alexander Safonov, Professor of the Department of Psychology and Human Capital Development at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on June 23.
According to him, higher education in Russia will undergo a profound transformation and will be divided into two parallel circuits. Fundamental education in the top 20 universities of the country will become elite, it will be difficult for the masses to access.
"Such an education will turn into a privilege for academically brilliant children who are able to overcome extremely high selection barriers, and for children from very wealthy families. At the same time, massive regional universities, especially those with a humanitarian profile, will face large—scale reduction, merger or conversion to meet the practical needs of specific enterprises," the source predicted.
According to the expert, in regional universities, higher education will become more applied, which will actually erase the line between bachelor's degree and advanced college.
