The Chinese military has stopped several provocations by Japanese warships and aircraft during exercises of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Pacific Ocean. This was reported on June 22 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper, citing Chinese authorities.

"During the exercises, Japanese ships and aircraft repeatedly tracked, observed, harassed and provoked the Chinese side at close range. The Liaoning aircraft carrier strike Group maintained a high degree of combat readiness throughout the entire time, continuously organizing combat sorties of carrier—based aircraft, flexibly changing battle formations, as well as professionally and cautiously reacting to dangerous actions by the Japanese side," the newspaper reports.

The SCMP also showed a video with at least four close-range approach episodes. This was preceded by a 40-day training exercise by the Chinese fleet in the South China Sea and the western Pacific, during which Japan regularly published information on the actions of the carrier group since its deployment began in May.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 24 that Moscow was calling on Tokyo to abandon its policy of accelerated remilitarization. The diplomat added that Russia is monitoring the liberalization of exports of weapons and military products in Japan.
