Auto expert named the reason for overheating of Chinese engines
Russian motorists have become more likely to complain about engine overheating and unit failure on forums dedicated to Chinese cars. As Stanislav Melnikov, the founder of the Speed Laboratory tuning center, explained, the reason is that most modern cars are forced to operate at operating temperatures above 100 ° for the sake of environmental friendliness and economy at idle and low load.
"This is not a defect, but a forced compromise with Euroecology. The higher the temperature in the cylinders, the fewer harmful products leave the limits of these very cylinders," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Melnikov as saying on June 22.
The expert explained that the temperature drops at the beginning of the movement, but it is impossible to immediately drop it to the optimal "running" 85-90 °. When starting abruptly, the heating increases even more for a short time. This leads to an increased risk of explosion and detonation, damage to pistons and discoloration of cylinder liners on all-aluminum engines. In addition, low oil pressure causes scuffing, the temperature of pistons and piston rings increases sharply under load, and the oil itself can become coked.
The specialist noted that many peripheral elements of the cooling system, which consist of rubber and plastic, can withstand up to 50,000 km of mileage at temperatures of 100 ° C and above on European cars and half as much on Chinese ones. Then the rubber and plastic begin to crumble, delaminate, lose their tightness and leak, which has a very negative effect on the operation of the internal combustion engine.
Melnikov pointed out that to solve the problem, the engine control unit (ECU) is recalibrated in two key areas: the target temperature changes in all operating modes, and the fuel supply adjustment changes. Due to this, the engine operates in a gentle thermal mode, the oil does not degrade, the risk of scuffing and detonation is minimized, and the life of the internal combustion engine is increased.
Earlier, on May 22, Vladimir Andreev, technical expert at the Fresh automotive marketplace, said that modern Chinese cars have problems with the multimedia system more often than cars of European, Korean and Japanese brands that left the Russian Federation in 2022.
