The threat of war between Ukraine and Belarus is quite real. This was stated by MGIMO Professor Kirill Koktysh, Doctor of Political Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia on June 23.

"When it comes to [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, then nothing can be ruled out. He is an uncontrollable person, moreover, with severe addictions. Therefore, I would take the threat of military action seriously. Russia and Belarus should be ready for escalation, they should work out scenarios for the development of the situation," the expert urged.

On June 19, Zelensky issued an ultimatum to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, accusing Minsk of an alleged military presence near the borders. He clarified that he requires the Belarusian side to withdraw military equipment, otherwise "Kiev will do it."

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus (LDPB), a member of the Parliament of Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, said on the same day that Zelensky was trying to draw Belarus and the whole of Europe into the conflict. According to the politician, it is pointless to talk with Minsk in the language of ultimatums. He stressed that the republic is aware of the goals of acts of extremism and false statements that are being made against it.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the situation, said that Zelensky's threats against Belarus were a manifestation of absolute aggression and interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.
