The MAYOR supported the action "Garden of Memory" on Poklonnaya Gora

On the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, the Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora hosted the traditional "Garden of Memory" event dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War. Its participants planted 15 young fir trees in memory of the war heroes, and also laid an Alley in memory of journalists who died in the line of duty.

"This is the seventh time that the action has been held on behalf of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. This year, we have traditionally planted trees and alleys in each region. Moreover, this year we have surpassed the threshold of 100 countries — we have planted trees not only in Russia, but also in other countries," said Roman Susenko, Director General of ANO Garden of Memory.

Before disembarking, the guests of honor toured the exposition of the Victory Museum, lit candles and honored the memory of the veterans at the Grieving Mother monument.

96-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War Nikolai Imchuk said that on this day he always remembers his military friends. He went to the front at the age of 11, was a signalman, was captured, went through four camps, including one of the most terrible — in the city of Uman. But even there he was able to establish contact with the partisans.

"Locals came to the camp and brought food: bread rolls, an onion, an apple. We can't take it in any way, the Germans wouldn't let us out and wouldn't let these residents in. But the doctor begged the camp commandant to let me out so that I could collect the food and give it to the prisoners. And that's how I met the partisans' contacts, three beautiful women. I received notes with instructions from them and passed them on to "the right people," Nikolai Imchuk said.

SVO veteran Kirill Moiseenko on Poklonnaya Gora with his wife and 14-year-old son Ilya. He says that his grandfather went through not only the entire Great Patriotic War, but also the Russian-Japanese War. After the end of World War II, he served in Japan, and returned home only in 1947.

"It is very important to preserve the memory of the feat of our ancestors, grandfathers and great-grandfathers so that our younger generation knows their true history. Youth is our future, the future of our country. If we don't deal with it, the enemy will deal with it and we will lose our future. Today we planted a tree in memory of the guys who died in a special military operation," Kirill Moiseenko said.
