The Interior Ministry warned about links to fraud sites in ChatGPT responses

In some cases, ChatGPT algorithms redirected customers to fake online resources designed to steal confidential data and funds. This was announced on June 22 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It is reported that duplicate websites for the sale of things and furniture, which copied brand names, images and descriptions of brands that have recently ceased to exist, were highlighted in the recommendations of artificial intelligence (AI). In some cases, users were offered discounts of up to 80%.

According to experts, the attackers could use the method of "data poisoning". They deliberately spread false information on the Web with fake reviews, automatically generated forum posts, and fake indexing information.

"The purpose of such actions is to distort the processing and sorting of information by artificial intelligence algorithms," the agency said in a message on its Telegram channel.

Interior Ministry experts also recalled that AI algorithms can produce outdated and irrelevant data. To ensure security, users were advised to conduct a cross-assessment: compare the responses received on other search platforms and search for the official primary source of information.

On June 19, the Russian Interior Ministry announced the spread of a new fraud scheme related to remote earnings offers on the Internet. According to the agency, the attackers place job ads in various chat rooms and channels, offering applicants to perform simple tasks for a fee. After completing the first instructions, the potential victim is sent to a special bot, where the allegedly accumulated earnings are displayed.
