Dmitriev warned Merz about the risk of repeating Starmer's fate

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz may become the next European politician to repeat the political fate of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer if he does not change his current course. This opinion was expressed on June 22 by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic cooperation with foreign countries.

"He failed to protect Britain and was destroying Western civilization. Merz will be next if he does not change his political course," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, the current political trends in a number of European countries indicate an increase in public discontent with the current elites. Dmitriev noted that such processes could lead to further changes in the leadership of European states if governments do not adjust their approaches.

He also expressed doubt that the situation would change after Starmer. According to Peskov, it is unlikely that anyone in the UK will take a different position on bilateral relations with Moscow.

Starmer announced during a speech at Downing Street on June 22 that he would step down as leader of the ruling Labour Party. He said that he had informed King Charles III of his decision.
