Over the past weekend, 638 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 86 people were killed and 808 injured. 76 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 22 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

In the Astrakhan region, a 63-year—old truck driver with a semi-trailer in the evening on 155 km of the Volgograd -Astrakhan highway decided to skip an adjustable railway crossing at a traffic light forbidding him to move, but collided with a locomotive pulling a passenger train. The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds motorists of the importance of following the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to concentrate and pay maximum attention. Despite this, some drivers try to pass in front of a nearby train or locomotive. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers of commuter trains and long-distance trains, the department noted.

In addition, over the weekend, 29 bus accidents were recorded, in which five people were killed, and 33 more road users, including one child, required medical attention. 21 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

So, in the Republic of Crimea, on 62 km of the Simferopol—Krasnoperekopsk—border with the Kherson Region highway, a 40-year-old crossover driver overook into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a bus carrying 20 passengers on the Razdolnoye—Simferopol route. Three bus passengers were killed in the collision, and the perpetrator and four other bus passengers were hospitalized with injuries.

As a result of 102 accidents involving pedestrians, 10 people were killed, and 97 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured, 21 child pedestrians, 17 of them were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 32 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 70 outside their area of operation.

112 accidents involving minors were registered, 131 young road users were injured, including 65 passengers and 18 motor transport drivers. Eight children were killed: five passengers, a pedestrian, a moped driver and a motorcyclist.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own in the summer, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving without the appropriate rights and skills. Administrative responsibility is provided for providing the opportunity to drive vehicles to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded that minors can drive mopeds and motorcycles on public roads no earlier than the age of 16 after completing training and obtaining a driver's license.

"Cross-country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should be used only on specialized tracks and only for motor sports. It is strictly forbidden to use them on ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas. Remember that the lack of control over the behavior and summer leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
