Car imports to Russia through the Far East increased by almost 23%

According to the results of January-May 2026, 152.4 thousand cars for personal use were imported into Russia through the customs of the Far Eastern region, an increase in volume compared to the first five months of last year was 22.8%. This was announced on June 22 by the press service of the Far Eastern Customs Administration.

Most of the cars during this period were imported through Vladivostok customs — 112.5 thousand units. This is followed by Ussuriysk (33 thousand units), Chita (2.5 thousand units), Khabarovsk (2 thousand units) and Sakhalin (1.9 thousand units) customs. In addition, a relatively small number of cars are registered in Buryatia and Nakhodka.

It is noted that the largest number of cars entering the Russian Federation through the Far East is imported from Japan (more than 138 thousand units; the share is 90.8%). South Korea accounted for 6.6% (more than 10,000 units), while China accounted for 2.6% (almost 4,000 units).

Customs officers warned that car buyers should provide documents with reliable information about the car, including its value. If there is a discrepancy between the cost of the goods compared to the indicator in the country of their purchase, the customs determines the cost independently based on various sources.

Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, reported on June 10 that 3,014 new Toyota cars were registered in the Russian Federation in May, which is twice as many as in May last year (1,488 units). In total, 12.7 thousand new cars of this brand were sold in the country in January–May (+98% year-on-year).
