Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union (EU) without Poland's consent, and Warsaw has the right to impose its own conditions on Kiev's path to membership in the union. This was announced on June 22 by the speaker of the Polish Sejm, Wlodzimierz Czazhasty.

"Ukraine will not join the European Union without Poland. Maybe we should finally set conditions," he said in an interview with Polsat News channel.

According to the politician, Poland is interested in Ukraine's security, as it is directly related to the security of the republic itself. Chazhastyj stressed that it is necessary to maintain cooperation in relations between the two countries, despite the existing differences. At the same time, he criticized the actions of the Ukrainian side, calling them erroneous.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed the opinion on June 19 that the EU does not want to initiate negotiations with Russia on a settlement in Ukraine for fear of being in a losing position. Based on this, none of the European leaders convinces their colleagues to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to start a dialogue.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski added on June 20 that Poland should take part in negotiations with Russia on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that Warsaw can seek a place at the negotiating table through European institutions, the European Council or the "coalition of the willing" if it is represented at the consultations.
