In the Ras Laffan industrial zone, an internal explosion occurred at one of the factories as a result of a technical accident. This was announced by the Interior Ministry on June 21.
"As a result of a technical accident at a factory in the Ras Laffan industrial zone, an internal explosion occurred. <...> no leaks threatening human safety were found," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is noted that at the moment, civil defense teams are dealing with the aftermath of the incident.
Later, the Interior Ministry reported that several people were injured in the incident. In addition, the explosion occurred due to a technical malfunction during the operation of one of the plants.
The Times of India newspaper reported on June 21 that seven people were killed and 40 injured in an ammonia leak that occurred at a seafood processing plant located near the village of Periyapalayam in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. It was noted that all the victims were urgently hospitalized in the nearest hospitals, where seven later died.
