In Kazan's Victory Park, residents of the city and activists of the Young Guard of United Russia laid out a portrait of Peter Gavrilov, the hero of the defense of the Brest Fortress, out of 40,000 candles.

"We have been preparing for a very, very long time, for more than two months we have been preparing candles...> A lot of volunteers took part, ordinary citizens who rallied with the help of this action," said one of the volunteers.

Symbolic installations were also lit in Tula as part of the "Fire Paintings" campaign.

"The Day of Remembrance and Mourning is a terrible date. The war divided people's lives into "before" and "after." Someone went to the front from school, someone saw off relatives and friends, not knowing if they would return," said Alexander Solntsev, a participant in the action, in an interview with Izvestia.
