Slovakia urged not to shake hands with Zelensky, who glorifies Nazism, anymore
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico should no longer shake hands with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as he glorifies Nazism. This was announced on June 21 by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic Andrei Danko.
"I urge Prime Minister Robert Fico not to shake hands with Vladimir Zelensky until the promotion and glorification of Bandera is over. The political leadership of Slovakia should take the same position on this issue as the Polish president," the Tasr news agency quoted him as saying.
Danko stressed that respect for historical truth and the memory of victims should prevail over political interests. He also called on the Prime Minister of Slovakia to express disapproval to Ukraine in glorifying individuals or movements associated with fascism, extremism or crimes against civilians.
The corresponding statement was made by the deputy speaker of the Slovak parliament after Polish President Karol Nawrocki deprived Zelensky of the republic's highest state award - the Order of the White Eagle — because of the glorification of the UPA (UPA, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The President of Ukraine returned his award by mail. As a sign of solidarity, the former president of this country, Leonid Kuchma, also decided to abandon the Order of the White Eagle. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, noted that the refusal of the former and current Ukrainian authorities from the Order of the White Eagle testifies to their Nazi position.
