Seven people have died as a result of an ammonia leak at a factory in southern India.
Seven people were killed and 40 injured in an ammonia leak that occurred at a seafood processing plant located near the village of Periyapalayam in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. This was reported on June 21 by The Times of India (ToI) newspaper, citing police officers.
"Seven workers were killed and more than 40 were hospitalized after an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood export point... Many complained of difficulty breathing, and some suffered from bleeding from the mouth and nose," the article says.
It is noted that all the victims were urgently hospitalized in the nearest hospitals, where seven later died. Some needed to be transferred to large public hospitals.
Police, fire and rescue crews and representatives of several departments - sanitary and tax — have now arrived at the scene of the tragedy.
On April 22, the BBC TV channel reported 13 dead in an explosion at a fireworks factory in the Indian state of Kerala. It was clarified that the detonation, felt several kilometers from the epicenter, could have occurred due to the intense heat.
