Vance says there has been great progress in negotiations with Iran in Switzerland

The delegations of the United States and Iran, who arrived in Switzerland for talks, were able to make great progress in the first few hours of contacts. This was announced on June 21 by American Vice President J. D. Vance.

"We have already made a lot of progress in the last few hours, and I expect that we will make additional progress in the coming hours," CNN quoted him as saying.

Vance did not specify what kind of consensus the parties had reached, but added that American leader Donald Trump had asked the participants of the meeting to "start a new page" in cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

Perestroika, as the US Vice president emphasized, will happen only if Tehran abandons its role as a driving force of "regional instability" and nuclear ambitions for the long term.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai also outlined his country's goals at the Swiss talks. So, he attributed to them the cessation of the conflict and the lifting of sanctions against Tehran.

The US-Iranian talks began in a closed format in Switzerland on the afternoon of June 21. They are expected to take a day. The Qatari and Pakistani delegations are taking part in the talks.
