Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on June 20 that he would not miss any opportunity for dialogue with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

"I will not miss any opportunity to have a dialogue with Russian President Putin," he said in a video message posted on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).

In addition, Fico added that he was ready to conduct a dialogue with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. He also clarified that the European Union has very strong tools to positively influence the decisions of the Ukrainian leadership.

The Politico newspaper reported on June 19 that the issue of resuming negotiations with Moscow had split the EU leaders into two camps. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz opposed contacts in this format. The leaders of the Eurotroika argue that now is not the time for negotiations and that the EU should be represented by France, Great Britain and Germany.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains open to negotiations with European countries, but attempts to engage in dialogue with the state from a position of strength are a serious mistake.
