Five people were injured in an armed attack near a mosque in Edinburgh. This was reported on June 20 by the BBC TV channel with reference to the police.

"As a result of a series of alleged attacks on Muslims, five people were injured: a man with a naked torso was seen walking through the streets of Edinburgh with a large—caliber weapon," the text says.

It is noted that the first attack occurred in the western part of the city the night before. Then the attacker managed to injure two men, as well as destroy a gas station and a pizzeria. As a result of the subsequent attacks, three more were injured.

Law enforcement officers who arrived in the area of "rapidly developing events" detained a 36-year-old local resident there. After that, Police Chief Catriona Paton issued a statement in which she stressed that "there is no place for racism and religious hatred in Scotland."

In turn, representatives of the Muslim community expressed their concern about the incident, as some of the injured turned out to be members of their association. An investigation is underway to establish all the details and circumstances of the incident.
